Aside from it's public role as a private school for the gifted, the Xavier Instite for the Gifted is also home to the super-hero team, The X-Men. To keep things seperate from the school, and to hide things from unwanted view the X-Men's true headquarters are located under the school in the secret sub-basements. In addition to the sub-basements there is also a terminal for the high speed magnetic rail cars that are used to reach the X-Hangar via an underground tunnel.
