Jean Grey: Has she taught you how
to...
The Stepford Cuckoos: Yes, Miss Grey. We know exactly what you're going to
say. We think it's a wonderful idea.

| Mutant Profile |
Real name:Celeste, Esme, Mindee, Phoebe and Sophie Stepford
Former aliases: "Emma's Girls"
Identity: Secret
Occupation: (current) Student, Adventurer
Legal status: Citizens of the United States with no criminal record, still minors
Place of birth: New York City, New York
Marital status: Single
Known relatives: Emma Frost (Foster Mother)
Base of operations: (current) Xavier Institute, Salem Center, Westchester County, New York State, (former) X-Factor I headquarters, New York City; "Ship"
First appearance: NEW X-MEN #118
Personality: Due to their upbringing and training by Emma Frost the
identical quints come across as cold and unemotional. Mysterious, stripped of
emotions and terribly intelligent, Stepford Cuckoos have a very cynical
view of the world, and are still adjusting to their places at the Institute.
The Stepford’s have a unique type of collective mind. When together they have an
eerie way of acting the same. All of the girls exhibit a calm and collected
demeanor when it comes to business. They are well spoken and don’t mind voicing their
opinions.
The girls are fiercely protective of one another. The quickest way to stir their
temper is for them to feel cornered or attacked. However, like all sisters there are
times when they are heartily sick of one another. It’s at these times you’ll find
them as close to arguing and divided as they ever come.
Even though the girls are similar in many ways, they do exhibit unique personalities
traits. These traits are much more obvious when one of the Stepford’s is alone
and without her sisters.

Known superhuman powers: The Stepford sisters share a unique telepathic and
empathic bond that allows them to operate with a collective mind. They can
communicate so rapidly through their connection, that they often speak in unison or
even finish each other’s sentences. In essences, this shared bond gives the
Stepford’s the appearance of acting as one entity.
The strength of the telepathic bond the girls share is based on their proximity. In
the same room the girls can act in unison. The further away, the weaker the bond
grows. Telepathic speech and shared empathy becomes faint at about ten miles. At
great distances, the girls can only sense each other’s presence in their mind.

| History |
The Stepford's background is mostly unknown due to their experiences at the hand's of
Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club, and their unwillingness to divulge information
about themselves.
It's known that they were born in New York, and after the death of their parents
somehow came into the care of Emma Frost. She set them aside from her Academy and the
Hellions, and chose to teach them privately.
Although the girls cared for their 'mother' they began to doubt her when they were made to take
part in some of her more illegal dealings.

When they learned the existence of Professor Xavier and his school they started to ask
Emma if they could enroll as students in the Institute. Emma refused, not wanting to
let the girl's go and not revealing to them that she considered the X-Men her enemies.
In time though the girl's found out for themselves when they came into direct contact
with the X-Men during a fight between the two. The girl's, showing a much higher level of
telepathy than Emma had realised, took control of her and announcing they would be leaving
with the X-Men. They have been students of the school ever since, and so far Emma has not tried
to claim them back.
